I am always interested in hearing from prospective undergraduate or graduate students, postdocs, and academic visitors. I supervise students and collaborate with researchers from a variety of backgrounds, including field and laboratory biologists, other quantitative biological types, and students and collaborators with other backgrounds (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computing, physical sciences) who have emerging interests in biology. I like to encourage physical scientists to think about biology.
If you are potentially interested in becoming a graduate student in my lab, please read my website and some of my papers. Recognize that you will be expected to have or develop serious quantitative skills. Field and lab projects can be available through co-supervisory arrangements with other scientists at KU and elsewhere. You should look at the KU graduate school webpage and the KU EEB page for prospective grad students. The annual deadline for student applicants is December 1.
At the moment and probably for the foreseeable future, my lab will focus on topics in metapopulation synchrony. See the first project described in the Research page.
